Being rather new to the realm of managing tape backups, I was surprised recently by hearing of someone declining to install a tape backup system because of the climate that they lived in. Apparently the area was very dry and dusty and they had been advised to stay away from tapes. They’re planning on using hard disks as their backup media. It seemed as if the dryness was the primary motivation to stay away from tapes. I’ve never heard of this before and my initial search couldn’t find much on the web about it. Anyone have any experience with this?
So, what do companies that have offices in places like Flagstaff, Las Vegas, or Albuquerque do if they’re too small to humidify their servers’ area? Disk-to-Disk-to-Bank Vault backups? 🙂
Thanks,
Nonapeptide
