What happens when you click the start button, does in function normally?
Is the start button in the normal location on the bottom left?
If you could do a screenshot and post it online that might be helpful.

Thankyouo for your reply. My start button is in the same place, It has’nt moved. When I right click the is nothing that pops up, So there is NO New to add a new task bar. the O/S that I’m useing is Win ME. I have even tryed to restart the system from an earlyer date to see it that would have restored the task bar but Nothing. I’m at a lose.

A couple things to try

Try hitting the windows key on your keyboard, usually at the bottom to the left and right of the space bar.
To the right of your start button, do you see the desktop or is it gray, the same color as the taskbar? And can you see your clock in the lower right corner of the screen?

thankyou once again .There is the start button and the clock are in the right postions. The taskbar is all 1 color.
The windows key works and brings up everything in the start menu eg: prog, docs, settings. If I right click on the prog it comes up with open or Explore. -

Check the Registry

There might be something missing in the
registry which is the culprit. Do a Regedit and check Internet Explorer within local machine\software\microsoft\internet explorer. See if you can work with this. -

Taskbar

It sounds like you’re missing your shortcut bar (i think i’ve got the correct term). Are you looking for where the shortcuts to Internet Explorer, View Desktop etc site? If so there are lines to indicate the shortcut bar’s position and you may have moved it too far open or too far closed which is known to happen. If you take your mouse place it on the start button then slowly glide it to the right moving toward your clock. At the point where it turns into a line with arrows on either end <-> you can then click and move that line like a column in excel and expand or shrink it to make the taskbar the size you want.
When you open a program like Internet explorer can you see it on the taskbar along the bottom?
Hope this helps

I’v tryed what you have sead but nothing.I think it is the taskbar? All the Icons that were next to the start button are gone, All the Icons next to the clock are there, and if I open up any programs then the is an icon at the bottom of the screeen near the start button.
Is there a way that I can extract the files form the Win ME disk without reinstalling windows? If so can I do it through Dos? eg: (extract *./ windows) -

Thankyou for your note.I dont have any properties. I have tryed to right click and nothing happens. It is dead; If I right click on the start button there is nothing, If I right click on the task bar there is nothing. If I right click in the middle of the screen then I get a popup menu, but there is nothing there to say add new Quick launch bar. I have had a look in the regedit and I have tryed to set it through the find and search but I can’t get anything to work.

Click Start/Find/Files or Folder and search for “Quick*” (without the quotes) in your system drive (“C:” I assume otherwise search all your drives)
If Found
From the list of found files and folder, look up the Quick Launch *folder*, right-click-it, select Send To … Desktop (Create Shortcut) option. In yourdesktop, drag the just created Quick Launch shortcut folder and release it on the taskbar … Vuallaaa!
…..
If not found
If you didnot find the Quick Launch folder,… easy … in an empty area on your desktop, right click and select New .. Folder. (Name this folder Quick if you wish)IN THIS FOLDER create SHORTCUTS of all the application you wish to have a quick access to. When you are done,… drag this new folder and release it on the taskbar … You can consider this bar as your .. quick launch toolbar.
Are you happy?

your toolbar

If you havent fixed it yet, try this; what ive seen the most is someone accidentally clicks and holds the top of the taskbar and drags it down. It then is removed from site. Try and click and hold where the taskbar is at the bottom and bring it backup. You can resize the toolbar and if you make it smaller, it disappears. Hope I could help!

Thankyou to all who have given there suggestions but nothing has worked, I’v done a complete virus scan and found out that the system has a worm virus, as there is more than 1 user for this computer and some. Some of the people know nothing about computers and had opened a file that was infected with a worm virus. Once again Thankyou.
