Task Manager Service won't start after SP4

By DLogan ·
I just recently applied Windows 2000 SP4 to all my servers. After the patch was applied I could no longer start the Task Scheduler Service on my 2 Citrix servers. When attempting to start the service I get the following error: "Could not start the Task Scheduler Service on Local Computer. Error 2148073504: An internal error occurred." I've searched everywhere I can think of to find any tips on resolving this issue. I found very little information. The technical bulletins I could locate only offered 2 resolution steps ? 1.) Make sure the service is using the Local System account and 2.) Make sure the file attributes on the Task Scheduler log file (SchedLgU.Txt) are correct. I?ve checked out both of these items. I?ve also searched through the listing of Post-SP4 hotfixes and there doesn?t seem to be anything that addresses this issue.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, have you been able to find a fix?

Don't know if this will help or apply but here goes.
I had some what the same problem when I apply SP4 to win200 wkst but in my case I lost access to the control panel , it would give error and just give me a blank box for the control panel.
It wouldn't let me backtrack to last SP so I ended up having to goto the OS CD with Windows up and reinstalling OS as an update, (booting up on CD don't give the option to update). Then reapplying SP4 and this took care of my problem.
Hope it helps.
