Task scheduler is missing from Services

By leonardd ·
Task scheduler is missing from Services manager. I am also not able to install "task scheduler" by removing and re-installing Internet Explorer and/or SP4. Task Scheduler the program applet under System tools will launch, but complains the Task Scheduler service needs to be started. But when you say Yes, start the Service it fails.

Anyone with other methods of installing and starting the Service? The Server is a Windows 2000 Server running AD.

Thanks for you assistance.

Check to see if the file svchost.exe exists.

It may be corrupt or missing.

In addition, scan the system for trojans, worms, malware and viri.

The svchost.exe file is there, if this file was missing and/or corrupt wouldn't I also see problems with File and Print sharing and possible RPC calls? Anyway, No viruses were found, that was one of the first things I checked. (Verified with Trend Micro products both locally and off their website.)

Export the following Registry key from another Win 2000 and import it onto the one w/o it:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Schedule

Reboot.

Hi,

Couple of things - have you thought of upgrading IE to version 6 sp1?

If not, what about starting the upgrade process and only selecting the components you want during the IE install, specifically Task Scheduler.

I had some machines that were without Task scheduler installed and that was the process I took and it worked ok.

Start the upgrade process selecting minimal/custom install, and I think it was under IE browsing enhancements.

let us know how you get on,
