TCP/IP Config Issues in w98se

By JeffryG ·
I just upgraded 3 NIC's on my customers peer to peer network of 9 pcs. All systems are w98se with 3com networking hardware.
There is 1 pc that will not see the entire network, it only sees itself. When I compaired the network setting to another pc on the network I noticed that the pc's connected to the network show 2 TCP/IP configurations. 1 TCP/IP is generic , the other TCP/IP lists the type of network card installed.
I can't get the pc to install the TCP/IP w/ the nic info, the only 1 thatshows up is the generic TCP/IP.
Any help with this would be great.....
I have also removed the NIC & re-installed without success.

I would start with trying the NIC in one of the other PCs to rule that out first before spending alot of time on configuring software.

Easiest way to check for any network connectivity, go to a command prompt and ping the known IP address of another workstation, if the results are positive at least you have narrowed the variables significantly instead of "shotgunning" parts.
My first inclination would be to check the "Network Workgroup" and ensure it is the same, Don't mean to insult your inteligence here but a "rogue" space bar entry, even at the end of a workgroup name can foul up the lot. You did not specify if all the other 8 PC's see each other and not the PC in question, I must assume this to be the case.
Generic TCP/IP is normal if no other network adapters are present or at least configured for networking.
