    Tech Perspective: Virtual tape solutions

    Fujitsu Siemens Computers and Storage Technology are collaborating on the development of CentricStor, a virtual archiving solution, which will connect Virtual Storage Manager to all major platforms. According to Gartner, while this cooperation enables advanced tape technology to be used on more platforms, it should be carefully deployed because the technology has not been fully proved. What do you think about this collaboration? What storage solutions does your organization use? Will you consider using CentricStor? What are your concerns regarding this solution?

      The Fujitsu Siemens Computers and Storage Technology collaboration, CentricStor (virtual archiving solution), will not be used by OSBI anytime soon. Small distrubution and unproven technology are two major reasons. As a Police and Public Service agency, we cannot commit our resources to (what would virtually be) a ‘CentricStor’ beta test site.
