Tech Perspective:Wireless app developers

By techperspective ·
According to Gartner, most enterprises underestimate the impact that mobile and wireless technologies will have on their IT skills portfolio. Gartner contends that organizations that fail to cultivate wireless applications development talent now will have a hard time catching up in the future. Do you feel that the need for talent in this market is as tight and important as Gartner indicates? Has your enterprise started gathering development staff for mobile and wireless applications? What specific skills do you look for in wireless app developers? You can read the related Gartner article, which will be posted 3 A.M. Monday, at http://www.techrepublic.com/article.jhtml?id=r00220001113ggp01.htm.

I'm not sure why this was posted as a forum question, but I'll be happy to respond.

"Do you feel that the need for talent in this market is as tight and important as Gartner indicates? "
I agree that the need for talent is tight, just as it is in most of the new and emerging markets. I think the degree of importance will increase in proportion to the development of mobile/wireless hardware with greater information display capacity.

"Has your enterprise started gathering development staff for mobile and wireless applications?"
No, because we have not identified a strategic need for such applications that would justify diverting energy and funding from current projects.

"What specific skills do you look for in wireless app developers?"
Specific skills would, for the most part, depend upon the specific application(s).

BTW, the link provided in the question text did not work for me...I received the following message:
