I think you should look into majoring in Computer Information Services degree, and minoring in Business Administration. This will give you the computer tech skills, and the knowledge of running your own business. Im considering doing the same thing,I like consulting for people and business. A consulting job will give you the opportunity to travel as much and wherever you want to. Good luck!

Well considering that your just "embarking" on the 4 years, and that 4 years in computers equals about "one lifetime" in any ohter area you have plenty of time to research, refine and adjust your future. I would agree that a BA in Computer Scienceswould be a starting point but would suggest more of a Business Marketing or Finance minor.

Possibly one of the better things you might want to do is to go to some of the company sites and look at their careers or jobs areas and see the type of requirements that the companies are looking for. Also, check some of the major online recruiting sites like monster.com or dice.com and see what is posted and what they are looking for. Also attend job fairs and recruiting opportunities as you go along, don't be concerned that your not ready yet, just make sure you get the details of what the companies are looking for and how you need to adjust to be prepared at the right time.

One of the most important things you will want to do is during your time in pursuit of the degree get any and all hands on experience that you can. Your degree, along with experience, will help you get that first important job. Also, you will need to keep aware of things as you go along as the world of computerschanges drastically in short periods of time.

Maybe the first job will not get you exactly where you want to be, or traveling where you want, but the key is to get in and then get yourself known as able and available for more.

Good Luck and best wishes on a sucessfilled future.

This post is a little late but I disagree with the previous posters so it might be helpful.

Sales people for major Tech companies can make a LOT of money and don't need an extreme amount of technical knowledge. If you are a techie by nature I would recommend going for a a marketing/business major over computer science and put yourself through college by working in the IT field. In most instances, the company that hires you (if you can market yourself well) will train you for their particularproducts and you will usually be accompanied by a technical engineer. I've worked with many vendors and the best sales people are the ones that know how to close a deal, not necessarily the ones that are the most technical. Your goal is to show how the products will increase revenue for the company or something to that effect. You need the knowledge to speak coherently about new technologies so you definitely need a background in IT. But focus more on the business skills. You'll make more moneyand that's why most people go into sales.
