I have Linux Red Hat 7.1 loaded on a PC.

I activated Gnome to see how it looked.

I then attempted to return to the command line mode and have been unable to achive this.

Even at start-up it immediately jumps into gnome.

PLEASE… has anyone else experienced this?
If so how did you return to the CLI?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

      Edit /etc/inittab.

Look for the section at the beginning of the file that has the following:

      # Default runlevel. The runlevels used by RHS are:
      # 0 – halt (Do NOT set initdefault to this)
      # 1 – Single user mode
      # 2 – Multiuser, without NFS (The same as 3, if you do not have networking)
      # 3 – Full multiuser mode
      # 4 – unused
      # 5 – X11
      # 6 – reboot (Do NOT set initdefault to this)
      #
      id:3:initdefault:

the line id:3:initdefault: is what sets the default runlevel. Yours is set to 5, which is the gui, and you want it set to 3, which is command line.
