TechRepublic Download

By awhitehouse ·
The last two days I have received the following message and wonder if this is a problem with the site itself.

"Intenet Explorer can download <file name> from"

"Internet Explorer was not able to open this internet site. the requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."

TR has been performing some site upgrades since Saturday so that could be your problem although I'm not overly sure if the downloads are affected.

Your best bet is to click on the Blue Help word on the bottom of the screen and contact TR direct as the TR Staff don't usually participate directly in these forums.

Okay, this is usually caused by a damaged IE "plug in".

To fix this problem, do the following, IN ORDER:

Open Internet Explorer,

Click on Tools, then Internet Options

Click Delete Cookies
Click Delete Files
Click Clear History

Then click on settings

Then click on View Objects

A window will then appear that says Downloaded Program Files.

You need to delete all of the objects in this window. To do so, select all of them (either by holdin CTRL + A, or click on edit and then select all). Then hit the delete key on your keyboard.

Once that is done close out of the window, and also click on OK on the settings window. This should bring you back to the Internet Options screen.

From here, click on the security tab, and change Security level to medium-low. You may have to click on Default Level first.
Now click on the tab that says Advanced. In this tab click on the botton at the bottom of this windows that says Restore defaults.

After doing that, uncheck the box that says enable third-party browser extensions.

Then, Click on apply.
