Techrepublic serving out malware?

By theoryjack ·
Tags: Off Topic

i have been an avid reader of the techrepublic newsletter. as usual received the link for the S4 teardown article, however, when i clicked on the link, this is what i saw before the page was loaded:

Danger: Malware Ahead!
Google Chrome has blocked access to this page on
Content from, a known malware distributor, has been inserted into this web page. Visiting this page now is very likely to infect your computer with malware.
Malware is malicious software that causes things like identity theft, financial loss, and permanent file deletion.

perhaps the administration team could look further into this before anyone else got unfortunate enough to be served more than just tech articles from ?

This is the link I used. It's from the newsletter sent out few hrs ago:

I would think u might have a difficult time tracing as the ads rotate randomly. I might be wrong. The link in question is in my 1st post. Lemme know if u need more info.

and even refreshed the page to get the rotating ads to "rotate"...I haven't had any issue as of yet, but I'll let you know if/when I do. Thanks for the heads up

It's most likely related to your part of the world

Adds on TR are targeted to different locations around the world so you will see different adds to what I see.

As for TR serving Malware it would be more correct to say the Adds on TR may be serving Malware and as TR has no control over the different advertisers that pay for the adds and how secure their Web Sites may or may not be so you really should address this to the various Advertising Sellers around the world who sell the space.

The reality is that any Web Site that relies on Advertising to pay or generate income for it will be subject to things like this happening from time to time and is something that the Add Industry needs to address preferably sooner rather than latter.
