Telnet problems via Win98 to Linux

by vfarina . Updated 24 years ago

Hi,
I am trying to Telnet to a Linux server thru my Win98 laptop. I have two NIC cards and a cross-over cable between them. I have assigned an IP Address for both machines, and have downloaded TeraTerm Pro (telnet client). Bothe LED lights are on the NIC cards, and the NIC cards are installed and drivers working properly on both machines.

Heres where it gets weird… I can ping the linux server, however I can not telnet to it. When I pull up winipcfg … it tells me I am using the PPP adapter (which I am guessing is my regular modem). When I try to change the assignment to my Ethernet Adapter (which has the correct IP assignment), the setting does not save. Any clue what might be the problem, do I need to configure the Linux network files differently.

Thanks.
Vince
