telnet to port 5500

By jdeiter ·
I want to be able to telnet into port 5500 on my win 2003 server rather than the default port 23. I beleive the server is preventing access because i cannot find anything in the firewall log indicating the the request was blocked. What could be causing this?

This Article should shed some light on this topic

Good article. Still was not able to find anything which referenced how to telnet into this port, or for that matter any port other than the default port. Our softare vendor needs telnet access and I do not want the default port 23 opened for security reasons.

You need to change the Telnet port.

Load Telnet Server Administration and select 3 (Display / change registry settings ...).

Then 8 (TelnetPort) and change the port to 5500.

That changes the port the Telnet service is listening on from 23 to 5500.

Hope this helps.

Chris
