    Temp File??

    Locked

    by ken g. ·

    Hey all,

I was wondering if any of you gentlemen know why a .txt file keeps ending up in my users Temp folders with the thread:

“We failed to open it with SC_MANAGER_ALL_ACCESS privileges.”

The name of the .txt file is SNDMon.log and this is a workgroup wide situation. TIA

You’re having a problem with a Symantec product on the system. This log file looks to be generated by Symantec Live Update, which is the update program for Symantec apps.
This error is saying how it can’t get the rights that Live Update is running under to determine something on a Windows Service.
So, here’s my thought. LiveUpdate is mangled and is trying to connect to the Internet to get the list of updates for the Symantec products on this system. Maybe it needs to stop a Service to perform the update, and this is failing, so it can’t perform the update. It then logs this in the file.
So, I would check the status of any Symantec programs on this system, make sure they are all up to date. Also, try running LiveUpdate manually (instead of automatically) and see what it tells you.
Your Event Viewer logs (Application and/or System) might also have information on this.

You’re right – WMI error in the Event Log that corresponds to the time the log file generated. Thank you sir.
