Temp files being saved on SYS Volume

By jkinzer ·
I am having a problem in that the purgeable size The SYS volume increases to the point that the volume runs out of disk space. The files in question are _T 1526.tmp etc.I don't have immediate purge enabled on the volume and this symptom started showing around 3 weeks ago.I am running Netware 5.1 with SP3 and Norton Anti-Virus ver 8.0. Any ideas to what could be causing this issue to occur?

There are issues with Norton anti-virus 8.0 on NetWare. A search of the novell an Symantec knowledgebases may yield clues, but I suspect the first step is installing the latest service packs for both.

I had one file in my SYS:ETC directory called _t-00001.tmp, it was added by NetWare. When I opened it in notepad the first line reads:
; The following lines were moved or added by the NetWare Support Pack
As well as other items added by NW4.x SP9

Open a few of yours and see what is in them, they may be of no concern unless it is repeatedly the same thing. If that is the case uninstall whatever service pack is causing it and re-install it.
Not sure that a tmp file is purgeable. Whether they are or not you can routinely use CRON to purge or delete them depending on if they purge. If they don't purge you will need to run somme kind of bat or ncf to routinely delete *.tmp.
Good Luck

They are just standard temp files created and used by various system services. Purgeable space shouldn't cause you any real problems other than warning messages. Just go into monitor and change the Volume Low thresholds or turn on Purge Immediate.
