Temporary Name: Tinker City

by fjmaier4 In reply to Temporary Name: Tinker Ci ...

Tinkering is fun until something goes wrong and you got major headache to fix.

Right now there's a problem with my iBook. I've got the eternal beachball in the Finder but I can switch to and work in other apps, strange. The CPU is running at 100% constantly and Snitch is telling me tor wants to make endless connections to multiple ports. I can't find it as a process in Activity Monitor or "Memory Usage Getter". Could it be iDisk? Something called MirrorAgent is at the top of the heap for RAM usage but it's using zero CPU time. Could it be stalled/hung?

On the PC side were installing DirMS and Buzzsaw to keep them defragged.

Puppy Linux & Ubuntu

by fjmaier4 In reply to Temporary Name: Tinker Ci ...

I've recently tried Puppy Linux on a LiveCD on my old IBM T22 laptop and I was impressed with how easy it was to try out a linux distro. My first ever on a PC, it was troublefree and runs very fast, much faster than XP on the same machine.

I'll add more to this later.

Right now I just want to say that it's too bad "The Trivia Geek" had such a bad time with Ubuntu. I've burned a LiveCD of that but haven't tried yet. I'll have to read the updates as well.
