Temporary User Profile???

I have a workstation that when a particular user logs in, a message presents saying that a user profile couldn’t be found (one exists) and that a temporary user profile will be used. Further, any changes made to the temp profile will be lost at logout. I’ve never seen this event before – what is happening? I tried to manually create a user profile for this user and it did not resolve the issue. Thanks-
