Terminal server client XP cant connect

by p.muller . Updated 21 years, 7 months ago

I have set up a test WINDOWS 2000 server. SP4.. I set up RRAS (VPN) using a single network card. AD is also installed on this server and I added some users (and activated Dial-In). On one win XP SP1 laptop I set up a VPN connection to the server (in house) and tried it… works fine. Then I used the remote desktop client.. and it worked fine too.

I then tried this same scenario with another win XP SP1 laptop… the vpn tunnel works (map drives copy data etc) but when I try to connect with the remote desktop client, I get the message ‘The client could not connect to the remote computer….’ (there is more to this message but you get the drift).

I then repeated the experiment from outside the office as well. (I installed a suitable router).. connected the VPN using the same laptop that worked when in the office and then used the remote desktop client… worked fine.. Then I hooked up the other laptop… I could establish a VPN tunnel… (map drives etc) but I get the same error message namely “the client could not connect to the remote computer”….

I have spent hours on this one and cant seem to track it down, why does it work on one laptop.. but not on the other one (I use the same userid etc on both machines).. can anyone help?
