    terminal server printing

We have users set up to run a database application on w2k terminal server. The problem occurs when the users try to print from the application they get booted out of their terminal server session back to their local desktop. We are having a hard time troubleshooting this problem because the problem will look like it has gone away for a few days then the next day it will start again. Also it affects some users much more than others. There does not seem to be a pattern of when this problem will occur. All clients are win98se. When users run this application locally they have no problems.
The only solution that has been suggested to me is to use Citrix Metaframe which is not a solution my boss will like. Does any one have any other suggestions?

      a few questions –
      1. are they trying to print to their local printers or to a remote network printer
      2. what kind of printers (make/model)
      3. what are they using to connect to the ts – the old ts client, the new ts advanced client, or via the web?
      4. has the server been patched to sp1?
      5. what is the database platform?

you shouldn’t need citrix for this – ts printing works fine…

      answers
      1. remote network printer on a hp jet admin port.
      2. various printers from hp laserjet 4, 4plus,5, 4000, 8000. (problem occurs more on newer printer models so we are using laserjet 4 drivers for those printers…suggested by application cendor)
      3. I believe the old ts client.
      4. no
      5. Database is writen in visual basic data is stored on a MS SQL server.
      Thank you
