Terminal Services

By bfeltus ·
Have a user that uses terminal services to access a database at our main site. This user needs to download information. Here at the main site, we download information to the database using dial-up. We would like the user at the remote site to download the information to the database(take over the job of downloading). My question is: Is it possible to use a modem from the terminal services user's workstation to do the download. Sounds impossible, but just maybe.... Putting a modem on the terminal server is out of the question. Thanks.

Terminal Services

Wait, let me see if I get this right. YOu dial up and download a file on a client workstation, transfer this file to your TS server (that has the database), an import the dowloaded file into the database.
Now, you want this one TS user to download the file via dialup like you used to, then transfer the file via his/her TS connection to the server for importing into the DB.
Is that correct?
Then, yes, this can be done.
Set up the client to dial up and download the file. You do that now, so that is cool for you to do.
Next, you need Rdpclip from the Windows Resource Kit, which lets you copy/paste files via a TS session.
The best part is that Rdpclip is a free download also! Here is the link for it:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/tools/hotfixes/rdpclip-o.asp

NOTE: above link also available at http://tinyurl.com/2ncm

hope this helps

Sorry, I did not explain setup clearly. We have a database application that resides on our local novell server at the main site. A workstation attached to novell server at the main site has a modem attached. This workstation dials out and gets the needed information and updates the central database. Our remote users need access to this database. We have a terminal server with the application executables installed. The terminal server points to the database on the novell server. I want the remote terminal server user to do the downloads that we do here locally. Thanks.
