Terminal Services Alternative

By serginho ·
Hi,

Does anybody know of an alternative to Windows Terminal Services? I need several clients to run applications from a Windows NT Server that is not the TS Edition. Upgrading to 2000 or 2K3 is not an option at the moment.

Thanks everybody!

Serginho

PC Anywhere isn't good at all for this use, especially if you want them to use the software at the same time.

Depending on the software, you maybe able to map a network drive and run the software from there. You may require to copy a few dlls to the local machine.

If it is a short-term fix PC-Anywhere or Netmeeting will allow 1 user at a time to access the server 1 at a time. But be careful as you are opening the access on the server to the outside. If you have a couple old PC's that have 98SE on them you could set them up with a user with the appropiate rights and then put Netmeeting configured for desktop sharing on them that would allow more than 1 user to access the app you could have as many users as you have extra PC's and user licenses. Reminder PCA or Netmeeting take over the host session.

Look at the Citrix MetaFrame solutions.

Very slick but a little more $$$. You can give rights to a virtual desktop on the server or to an application.

Clients work on most machines from w95 up with very minimal hardware.
