Testing - Effort estimation

Experts,
I have executed good number of Test automation projects, but i feel i am lacking in doing Effort estimation.

Experts can shed some light on this topic.Your help is highly appreciated.

effort is a often directly related with complexity. More effort does not make
more productivity.

No simple answer

If, as I assume, you are referring to estimating the time requires to automate manual tests, then it would vary directly with the skill and experience of those involved, but most importantly with the level to which the manual tests are well thought out and well documented.

Its not a great effort to automate great well written and documented manual tests, but thats not often the case.

If manual testing is haphazard, then it will be a great effort to automate.
