The best way to break into the biz.

By liam19 ·
I am a small business owner and work with a lot of computers. I have no formal training in that direction but I am also the "geek" everyone calls to solve their computer problems for free.

I am thinking about doing the same thing professionally. (It's fun)

What do you think is the best path of training for me to take?

And don't tell me to go to my local technical college I told you I am already in business and work full time.

I think you are going to have a very hard time breaking into it without any actual "working" experience or a certificate. What you need to do to get a start is get your A+ certification first then concentrate on your MCP by self study home courses. There is ALOT of home study MCSE courses out there. Once you have your MCP or MCSE you are pretty much guarranted a job. :)

Certs Help

by petergkozak In reply to Well...

I have had my own systems company for 3 years now. I have been in the business for 10 years. I never had any Certifications at all and was wondering the same how do I get into it without closing my company and working for another. I went and got most of microsofts certifications that they offer including A+ and a one other. I used it for a marketing plan. If you have the knowledge this are good tools for marketing.

Try SmartCertify Direct

Try SmartCertify Direct or some of the other internet training and certification sites. Reason: You can use certification to get more clients. There are subsets to MCSE for instance that might be nice to put on a proposal letter to a new client.

There is also some really good training around consulting services and how to stay out of trouble and away from customer blame.
