The Chas! An additional item please!

TY, for the XP info...Post your name and collect the points, I'll close this 1 right away. Just a small token I know, but wanted to say thank's again.

If you know perchance how to use the console to get that problem w/ the "Task Manager" fixed orany links I'd appreciate it and open a new question to deal w/ it. There really are a lot of tools there in the repair console, it's like an enhanced form of DOS it seems to me, but help files are really lacking when you don't quite have the time togo through each line in the console. My project for the rest of this week is to do just that however, in my free time. (Yeah, What free time! Lol.)

Again TY!!

Just a note..I was able to get the console to launch from CD, just not able to find the correct tool in there to replace the damaged, missing or corrupt file. Do you know which tool would actually repair it? (The Task Manager)

Hello,

Fortunately (knock on wood) I have not had to use the recovery console, so I do not feel qualified to walk you through it.

I've been looking for a good tutorial on the recovery console for you.

2 that I have found so far are

http://tinyurl.com/5gm8
http://www.theeldergeek.com/recovery_console.htm

I was sure that Microsoft had moved the system file checker to the recovery console.

Turns out, you can run SFC from the run option on the start menu.

For more information, just type sfc in the search box on the help page.
You can also get information on the recovery console there.

Best Wishes,
Chas

Again, TY, I looked for SFC but didn't try there, but didn't find it, will try it to see if it finds a missing or corrupt file.

I had the user try to get the Run command to run SFC from there, only got a flash of the screen too fast to check of course. (But he did see that it was the System File Checker). I think there's something running in background trying to keep us from finding the problem & fixing it.
