The data file was not closed properly

I have a user who is having an error message on opening outlook 2003 on an exchange server. He has an archive file but when he opens outlook he gets ‘The data file ‘Mailbox – (archive name)’ was not closed properly. The file is being checked for problems. Can anyone help?
