The Future of SQL?

By plen411 ·
A client of mine is considering replacing one MS SQL-based ERP system with another. He told me that one source he spoke to mentioned to him that SQL-based vendors are moving their software to other DB platforms. I was surprised by this assertion. Has anyone had negative experiences with SQL or is aware that a movement away from SQL exists? Thanks you your feedback.

Problably wanted to sell him something with a better margin

There's a movement away from relational dbs to OODBM's.

It's alright waffling about these things though, the effort involved to do ot for an existing system is huge, even if you designed for multiple backends, and if MS start losing market share, they'll come up with something, they always do, personally I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
