The Geek/Jedi comparison

By BrianBooher ·
I call on the power of geeks to come up with an idea to make this phrase sound a lot better:

The Force is to a Jedi as (knowledge) is to a computer geek. There is the light side and dark side.

What other term would you call "knowledge" to make this phrase sound a lot better? What would a non-geek say that we geeks have?

Here's another thought:
The lightsaber is to the Jedi as the computer is to the geek. It is used as a tool but also as a weapon for defense and offense.

Bad use of comparison

by LarryD4 In reply to The Geek/Jedi comparison

Sorry but the Force is or was, never a learned thing. It was something you either had or didn't have, hence the searches Jedi make for Padawan's. You would train to cultivate the skill you already have but you would need the ability first.

In technology as most of us should know. You don't need computer skill to work in the I.T. industry.

But if I were to stretch the pretenses of IT Analysis and make an assumption that all IT people were born with the inherent "skill", I would say...

The force is to a Jedi

as

Logic is to a computer geek.

With no logic, lost the geek is.

Lightsabre to a Jedi is a _____ to a Geek

by LarryD4 In reply to Bad use of comparison

The lightsabre was a tool that only Jedi could build. Its construction was passed down from Master to Padawan and was essentially a quest. You had to find the planet with appropriate crystals and build your lightsabre yourself.

Though a computer is a buildable item and not everyone knows how, its not a mysterious item. But the Geeks self made "Cool" tools, like a customized boot CD for troubleshooting are.

So

I would say,

a light sabre is to a Jedi

as

a self made boot CD is to a Geek.

Mandatory the boot cd is, for the techno Geek Master.

The Force

by MiLESKennedy In reply to The Geek/Jedi comparison

I would guess that you had a starwars tshirt with Yoda on the front, a light saber strapped on to your waist, and a big day-glow "Kick Me HARD" sign taped to your back pretty much every day...
