A folder on a file server was mapped as a network drive on my machine at work (XP, a domain).
I no longer require access to the folder and have tried to remove it without success. I’d thought that this was going to be a relatively ‘simple’ procedure until I tried it…since I’d always been under the impression that the command “NET USE DRIVE_LETTER: /DELETE” (I can’t seem to get the /PERSISTENT syntax right!) would solve the problem. The drive disappears following this but comes up right again after a machine reboot…diligently obeying the ‘Reconnect at logon’ instruction I’d selected the first time it was mapped.
I’ve Googled around a bit but still not sure about the different approaches suggested…the suggestions on tweaking the Registry appear to be for removing totally the feature for mapping network drives, not for killing an already mapped drive.
I’d greatly appreciate an useful pointer to ‘exterminate’ this pest once and for all! 🙂
