The Perfect PC – Other Components

Network Adapter:
3Com’s 3C905B-TX has been a good reliable adapter for me. Any other 10/100 Fast Ethernet card would probably work as well. But since this is a component of the computer, I should include it in this evaluation for comments and suggestions.

Sound Card:
I’ve never been one to pay any attention to these, as I don’t have much use for them in my office environment. But since I’m covering all possible components, I’d love to have a good “sound system” in my home PC that would allow me to write to disk (some of) the music from my collection of over 10,000 old record albums. Any ideas?

Fans and Cooling:
This category applies particularly to the CPU fan. What are some of the best and most reliable on the market? What about the size and material of the heat sink? And, of course, everyone wants a Q-U-I-E-T CPU fan. In addition, what are some opinions on additional cooling options?

PC Case:
Volts, Watts, air flow, etc. What are the reasons to pay attention to this sometimes overlooked component?

Mouse and Keyboard:
I have grown to like the Microsoft IntelliMouse and the Microsoft “Internet” keyboard.

UPS:
APC BackUPS 300

Miscellaneous Hardware considerations:
What have I overlooked?
