The right modem for Pentium 133

    Locked

    by crisbilly ·

I purchased a modem, D-Link PCI internal conexant for my Pentium 133 PC. But when I installed the driver, I realized that my new modem is not compatible with non-MMX CPU’s. Somebody told me that an external modem will work on it. What’s the best option?

    Thank you in advance.

You need a hardware controller based modem which should work with your PC. You should be able to purchase it in any computer store.
Price is a little bit higher ($10 or more) than Win Modem but usually less than an external modem.

External or internal modems will work, just make sure they are hadrware modems (not “WinModems”). I personally prefer US Robotics modems now though they tend to be a little pricey. Creative Labs has decent modems for the cost also. If you get an external modem, make sure it is a Serial modem and not a USB modem (you’re P133 won’t have USB ports unless you added them later).

      Good luck!

I would advise you to try it with a 28.8 Modem, that should normally be able to run with a pentium 133. Good luck
