The Specified I/O operation on Device/Harddisk1/DR7 was not completd on USB

Hi,

I am having problem with my Seagate USB portable HDD 120gb. It was working properly for 2 years. but this week i started to get this error: “The Specified I/O operation on Device/Harddisk1/DR7 was not completed before time-out period expired.” after 20 seconds when i plug it to my PC. and windows does not see my portable hdd.
as i contacted with the Seagate support they told me that hdd is dead and they offered me to their back-up company. actually hdd doesnt have guarantee.
the important pointy is i have 110 gb data inside and it is shame that i havent got backup! these files are very important and i have to recover them anyway.

so i would like to ask here to the proffessionals: what would you offer me to do now?

one of my friend told be to open the box and take the hdd out and install it to another PC. he thinks that it is because of the cables in the box.

i will be very glad if someone help me..
thnx
