The specified I/O operation on name was not completed ...

By skirudder ·
I suddenly started receiving the following error message when I try to write to a USB thumb-type drive. This error occurred with 3 different memory sticks. "The specified I/O operation on Device\Harddisk7\DR7 was not completed before the time-out period expired". I was able to copy small falls, but received a subsequent message that the path was too deep when trying to copy a larger file.

of things to try. Volume is the Drive Letter that you are checking.

Click on Start, Run and type in cmd and press Enter.

At the command prompt type in chkdsk volume:/r and press Enter.

Check to see if any of the file names are longer than 256 characters.
