A Blog Intro
by willmarpo · about 18 years, 11 months ago
In reply to The techy comment’s lair
First time creating a blog entry.
The themes are not constrained, nor time. Entries are constrained to
the availability of something to say. Technology trends, Java things,
Tips to share, Questions to answer or even Delphi code snippets. May I
write a poem sometime? -

George Dantzig as an Urban Legend

After hearing about George Dantzig’s death (mathematician inventor
of the Simplex Method), a friend of mine passed along this link to the Snopes
site.George Dantzig was the guy to started the urban legend about a
student that got late to a test, saw an equation in the blackboard and started
working it, without knowing it was an example of an unsolvable problem. Of
course, the student was able to solve the equation. In fact, George Dantzig? story is similar (yet, not less
amazing) and led to the actual urban legend. Here you have the link to read it.-

Mac OS on Intel
by willmarpo · about 18 years, 10 months ago

For many years, Mac was a separated thing, a special name that was
outside the bunch of pedestrian brands. It has its own mythology. It is
not the same to own an iPod that to own a common MP3 player. It has it
status. That is why I feel bad about this change. New Macs will have the now
common “Intel Inside” logo. Is like losing its “chick”, its difference,
its personality. But then I know it may be a necessary change, since
the PowerPC is falling behind. Apple needs to keep differentiated,
because that is why they stand out from the mass. All good things are dying.

Delphi on Mac?
by willmarpo · about 18 years, 10 months ago
In reply to The techy comment’s lair
Danny Thorpe, Borland guy, has stated in his blog that this change is
not changing too much the effort required to make Delphi include Mac as
a target platform. That doesn’t mean Borland is not thinking on doing
it, but it also means it may stay as it is today: no short term plans
for it.
The question is if the change will bring Mac to grow in the market
share or, at the contrary, the change will scare Mac users and they
will keep the last PowerPC machines and avoid the Intel ones until the
change proves to be mature and solid. Id the market share expands, I
think it is worth to take a look on the possibility to target that
platform.
