Thinkpad keyboard/power problem

By bob1223 ·
I came back home one day, opened my laptop and began to type my password to log back on when the keyboard froze- the caps lock key and the power LED both lit up and I began to hear a beeping noise. I have reset my CMOS, checked that my RAMs were positioned correctly, tried updating my keyboard drivers but nothing works! Any suggestions?

I have a Thinkpad T410

well the power button and capslock LEDs light up but the computer itself does not actually turn on. It is only when I use the power button on the dock that it turns on. The keyboard does not work so I am connecting the laptop to a USB keyboard. Does this suggest that my keyboard is damaged somehow or could it be a power distribution problem somewhere else?

Thanks for your reply!

OK then try this

Remove the NB From the Dock, Remove the Battery and if the NB has a Mains Adapter Plugged into it remove that as well.

Then when there is no power source press the Power On Button for 20 seconds. This will discharge the internal capacitors inside the NB.

After you have done the above refit the battery and refit tot he Dock and try turning on again.

Thank you for your response! I realised that it might be my keyboard that was not working, so I replaced the laptop keyboard from another laptop of the same model and it worked fine. So I'm guessing that for some odd reason that keyboard just stopped functioning. Thank you guys!
