Thoughts on vyatta router and hardware

by dumphrey . Updated 16 years, 1 month ago

I have been testing the vyatta software from time to time and so far I’m impressed. I have not done enough with it (beyond basic 2 interface with NAT). It has replaced IPCop as my backup router at the house (running on an old celeron 1.2 Ghz with 512 ram). Currently I am playing with ACLs to build some firewall functionality (drop all 1918s incoming, allow established incoming, drop all. Limit outgoing to set list of static ips via nat). Also, I am looking at adding another nic to create a separate wireless network.
Have any of the rest of you played with it much? And if so, what sort of hardware would you recommend to run it on as an edge/gateway for a small business (25-50 users). Keep in mind performance and longevity are both priorities.
