Thumbnails not displaying

By MithGarvis ·
I have a user who has been using the same Windows 2000 Pro machine for some time. He has not installed or uninstalled any software recently. Yesterday he came to me with the problem that in Windows Explorer when he set the view to Thumbnails all he sees are the large icons. As he spends a lot of time working with pictures this is a real inconvenience.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Check file associations.

For Windows to display thumbnails, IE has to be associated with the format of the image.

It does not have to be the default format, just associated.

When an application hijacked the file association on my W98 box, Ihad to re-create the registry key for the IE association to correct be able to view thumbnails again.

That would have been a solution had the user had a problem with a single file type. As the problem was with ALL file types it was another story. I found the solution on Microsoft.com.
