I have had a problem with the user accounts in XP Pro. I have been using this computer for a number of months with a user name of allan as administrator. I recently set up a network with two other computers I have. After that the computer set up another account as administrator.
That made two administrator accounts which I did not want. All the saved files I had were under my user name ‘allan’ but when the computer opened not one of the files could be opened from the desktop as before. There were no addresses in Thunderbird or mail. I had to reinstall Thunderbird but when it tried to open, a dialog box came up and said it was already running and I would have to close it first before I could use it.
I have since deleted my account as Allan and all my files are now in the guest account. I have tried to remove Thunderbird from the computer using the administrator account and reinstalled it again about half a dozen times now, each time with the same result.
I even went so far as to remove every instance of Thunderbird, I could find in the registry.
Can anyone help me to get this program going again as it is my default email program. I am the only one who uses this computer and I want to be able to alter anything as I see fit without running into the “you do not have permission” problems. That is why I want to run it as administrator, or do I have to do a complete re-install of XP.
