I've been caught out by a number of Toshiba's recently that have had hardware problems.

Before attempting to install a different OS try loading a Live Linux and see if the keyboard works properly. If it does than there is a XP driver missing that hasn't been installed as all these companies supply the necessary software for their computers to work properly. Personally I've found quite a few Toshiba's recently with bad Keyboard controllers which have been causing problems.

So try a Live Linux first to make sure that the hardware is working properly before you waste a lot of time attempting to find drivers that may not work because the hardware is faulty.
