Time to “tap out”?

Toni,
For the sake of argument, let’s assume your writer objectively and accurately described her work environment.

In martial arts jargon, “tap out” equals “saying uncle”. I empathize with the employee. I understand the difficulties encountered with autism spectrum disorders(ASD). I also understand the power of “victimology”. Half the battle here is knowing when to tap out, or when to say “when”.

Throwing up your hands and resigning oneself to remain in an abusive relationship is classic learned helplessness. The writer is not an indenture servant. I don’t know UK employment law. But I do know that despite her alleged 89% unemployment rate among ASD workers, she is not barred from looking elsewhere WHILE she still has a job. In fact, that would be the best option, IMO. I would not want a prospective employer calling this employer for a reference after I left. Why? Because guess who will get the call? You got it…HR (aka T. Rex).

One last thing, I find it a bit incredible that she and T. Rex have the same boss and that she hasn’t raised the issue with this boss. If so, why not?

Based on what you described, I don’t believe we have the whole story.
