Timed Out Share Connections

By kelley.coleman ·
I have a power user (my boss!) who complains that his share connections timeout after a few minutes. They don't disappear, but when saving a document in, say, Word, it reconnects to all the shares just to save into one. The added time is frustratinghim. And since I live to make his life less frustrating, I'd like to solve this for him. Is it a registry issue? Is there a timeout configuration somewhere that can be increased?

Timed Out Share Connections

How about some more info...Is this NT, 95/98? Are the shares on another NT or 95/98 machine? Are the shares mapped to reconnect at login? Does the user have the permissions to connect to the shares, or is there a limit on the number of users? I think there is a setting to disconnect after a certain amount of time on inactivity, I will look./..

I tried to post a response to this before, but it apparently didn't stick.

The system in question is a NT 4.0. The shares are mapped to reconnect. The user has god-like permissions. There is not a limit on users.

Did you find anything on the disconnect time? The connections still show up in My Computer and file/save dialog boxes. It's just that when the user goes to access or save a file from that share, there is a long delay that we can only assume is the network rebuilding timed out connections to all his shares.
