tips.exe Dr Watson Error

By CyVaquero ·
I read an earlier thread about this problem but the answers pointed toward IE5.5 as the culprit. I have had IE5.5 running on one of the machine that I am receiving the error on for some time. The error did not show up until after Option Pack was wasinstalled. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Option Pack several times to make sure that it was not a fluke. After every uninstall the problem disappears and after every install the problem reappears.

Accompanying this problem are a couple EventLog entries, namely:

msbusmou could not be found
mssermou could not be found
msinport could not be found

This is by no means crippling, more of a nuisance, the machine runs fine after the Dr. Watson is acknowledged and Tips even runs fine when I open PWS.

My question is, is this an issue for Option Pack, IE5.5, or both when combined? What is the patch or fix, without uninstalling one or the other (the obvious, easy answer)?

The easiest way to cure the problem is to remove all versions of IE, then install 5.5. Remember to save your files and address book. This is the only known workaround. 5.5 will upgrade 5.1, but seems to trash anything earlier, unless all patches were installed. This appears to be your cause. Always do the patch updates, then the upgrade. Most upgrades do not include the patches as they are presuming that this has been done.

I have found that this was not an IE issue at all but had to do with the Intellipoint drivers that were installed. The tips.exe that ships with Intellipoint v2.0 is not compatible with WinNT4 SP4. Simply downloaded updated drivers from Microsoft.
