Tired of ArcServe: Need new solution

I’ve been running CA ArcServe 2000 for 2 years now, and I’ve had it. It’s terrible and customer support is worse. I’m looking to drop it for something that’s reliable and easy to use.

So what do you like? I’m looking at Backup Exec. I want something that is primarily easy to use. I back up about 6-8 servers, nothing real complicated. Lots of bells & whistles are not required. Just backups and restores. About the only whistle I need is the ability to set a certain slot to run a certain job. A database that works would be a nice change.

backup exec is the schwizwa.

I use it to back up mulitple networks using tape libraries and dat drives.

It has some nice features, especially if you have exchange.

Alerts are great, so you can see if your backup jobs failed or suceeded.It takes some knowledge to set up. But once it goes it rocks.

I use Ultrabac it’s easy to use, reliable and I have had no problems at all. It also has an imaging feature as well as capability to back up the system state on remote servers. you can download a trial at http://www.ultrabac.com

I was an Arcserve user and your right all the extra crap they threw on it over the past 5 years makes it all but unuseable for a small enterprise. I have tested Ultrabac(doesn’t cut it), Novastor(okay but has problems with certain areas of functionality) Veritas BackupExec is going to be your answer. It is the closest to what you are used to and it’s plugins and interface are easy to work with. It’s Exchange backup features are the best around (allowing restore to seperate location most only allow restore back to original location and don’t have the ability for brick level backup)
Bottom line, save yourself some pain and just get BackupExec!!
