To Achieve Position as COO in IT Company

by naval . Updated 25 years, 1 month ago

As a part of my career objective I have been wondering for last few months as to where should I target my ambition or what is my ambition? Am I in the right Direction towards achieving the same? So in retrospect I pondered over past 7 years of my prof. experience where I was successful in doing things differently in the interest of my organizations that i worked for. I think I want to pursue few things which would help me in becoming a Chief Operating Officer (COO) in an IT company. I understand that a COO is hired by the Board of Directors, reports to the President or Executive Committee, and is responsible for carrying out the Board’s policies. He will be held accountable for all areas in the organization and will ensure the synergism ofall activities within the same. He becomes the Board’s bridge to the staff and committees and enables a Board to avoid the intricacies and short-term focus that is the staff’s responsibility. He will prepare such special reports as may be requested by the Board and will report back on the effectiveness of the organization’s policies, operations and new programs. Having said that if my activities have been instrumental in all of the above concerns for my current/ past organizations still I have only the Middle-management position. I would like your suggestion on the above so that I can carry my ambition for accomplishment further towards this Goal of being a COO. I have worked with two start-ups earlier, before I joined this new start-up and also had been instrumental in making a start-up successful by giving my management consultancy to form a successful company and made them achieve success in all the above inspite of me being a non-management graduate from a reputed B-school to boast off. I am a Computer Engineer but made my way towards middle management after proving my expertise. I have also never faced any opposition to the ideas that I might have implement
