To change support job to Development

Hai there,
I am working for an IT Service Support team at a company.BAsically my job is to provide support to the existing product in the front of database. To climb the corporate ladder i feel that the development exposure is a must. What do u say?
I am providing database support, by tracking the problems in the data flow in an manufacturnig industry.But i dont see a prspctive future in this current Non-IT industry. But to shift to an IT Industaryt on a developing Domain.what should i take into account. How to shape my career?
I have my Bacholar's degree In CS. 1 Yr experience.

Take it on yourself to find a need within the company and then develop a solution on your own time. Give it to the company making sure they know you want a job in development and that this is your way of showing them you know what you are doing. If that does not work start looking for an entry level development job at another company. Get your masters.
