to read files from cdrom

Dear sir,
i am linux beginner. i am using linux
9.0 and can't browse the cdrom. and can't mount
the cdrom. when i use mount /dev/cdrom, it
displays /dev/cdrom is not a valid block device.
pls, help me.

try /dev/cd0
also check your boot up messages to ensure linux is seeing your cd-rom at boot.
You can do this by typing in the command "dmesg" or by looking in /var/log/boot.log. (Note these commands are from redhat 9 they may vary on other distro's)
