Tons of LB****** temp files

By joegrosskopf ·
My Windows2000 server has about 3000 temp files called LB1768.tmp, LB176A.tmp etc. in my C:\winnt\temp taking up approx 1 GB of space. I tried to delete them but they all tell me they are "in use" when I try to delet them. Can anyone tell me what program created them and why? Thanks

It appears to be a virus on the server system that is creating the files
Run the Anti-Virus on your system
Check the system using Find Files or Folders and check to see how many files come up
Open Windows Explorer and locate the folder under C:\Windows directory

I don't remember if these are the same file names, but check if one of your users is using file/mp3 sharing software (aimster, audio galaxy, etc)
Some of these place files in the temp folder when outside users come looking for files.

lb*.tmp are common temp files from what I have seen.
Try booting into Safe Mode, then try to delete them.
Odds are, some service or application has these locked open.
