Too many windows (Excel)

By c.barnhorst ·
When I open a new Excel sheet or change between sheets or workbooks in 2000 I get a new window everytime. I want to change sheets in the open window, not keep adding sheets to my taskbar. I have activated the radio button in the folder options forhaving applications open in the current window instead of opening a new window (somewhere five tabs deep in the desktop options) but it makes no difference. Why not?

Go to Tools>Options. On the View tab remove the check mark from Windows in Taskbar.

Well, there are two options when you create- either you can create a new workbook or another book1 (numbered 11,12 etc). contrast this to when you want to change a sheet, you use the tab(sheets) in the bottom or use Insert worksheet option. Then youwill not get new windows.
Regarding keeping adding sheets to the taskbar, you will find that although more windows are apparently added to the taskbar, if you will minimise the current workbook which is active, you will find underneath other workbooks which are open. so you can work just like you do in other applications with one window open.
when you close excel all workbooks will vanish (subject to saving routine)
I hope I have understood and replied correctly to your problem

Read 'sheets' as workbooks and not as tabs in a workbook. I have never gotten over 123 and Multiplan terms. Sorry.

The problem is how to switch projects in one window and not have a new window everytime I open a new or existing file. I am used to opening a file, working, doing a save-as, and then opening a new file and having it replace the first file in the window. Now I am on a workstation at work where I have to close one file before opening the next or I clutter the task bar (and, yes, there are open windows behind the active one). I am using a 128 MB workstation and resources sometimes dwindle badly.
