Greetings. I am an administrator for a small network (50 users), mostly Linux backend, one NT server with mixed desktops, from 95 to 2000 and Linux boxes, and coming soon, an Exchange server. There are a few problems that I have been unable to resolve yet to my satisfaction, and I’m wasting a lot of time trying to find good tools to do the job. Here’s what my continuing problems are:
Backups: I looked at oursourcing this – too expensive for our company. Arcserve is very pricy as well. What I’d like to do is find partition ghosting software that will work over a network. It will let me make images of all the desktops on the network, plus servers, update the images when changes are made to the system. Then I’d store all the images inone place and only have to back that up. If a machine goes down, no problem, restore from image. I’d like the images to be compressed as well.
Printing: I’d like a print management tool that works on all network printers and it lets me manage who has access to the printers, setup special spooling rules if necessary.
Virus: I’d love to see a one stop shopping solution for virus protection that works with sendmail and checks e-mail attachments, plus works on all desktops running whatever version of Windows. It must include upgrade protection and dat files updates pushed to me automatically whenever they are updated.
If you have experience with any solutions that may work in the above scenario for any of the problems mentioned, letme know. It would be most appreciated.
Thanks.
