toplogy of an ISP

By toliver ·
I was hoping someone could give me a good link or tell about how the hardware of a small ISP (300 users) would be connected from the sprint boxes to the router and other hardware. I am a student and I am researching how to start and implement an ISP.

toplogy of an ISP

Wow. That is a huge, open-ended question. The toplology of your average ISP all is based on the number of users, the physical spread of those users, the average needed connection speed, needed bandwidth, availible telecommunications resources, type of ISP, etc.

Are we discussing dialup, WAN ISP, cable... Also, can you narrow down just what the ISP is for, give some demographics like how big an area it will cover, if the users are concetrated, whether we are talking about a CAN, MAN, or WAN, etc?

Here is a good link you might want to check out:
http://navigators.com/isp.html

THis site lists about a hundred ISPs of various sizes with toplogy maps and network statistics. A decent site if you ask me. In addition, if you want to look at what the individual hardware in an ISP is, i suggest you consider studying some basic LAN/WAN networking concepts. Some of the more basic CCNA or CCDA study guides might be a good starter for you.

It would help you to understand the research thatyou put together.

That's a very wide open question. Start browsing the leader's internet pages, such as www.cisco.com, www.lucent.com, in order to search hardware for ISP. There?s a chapter only for isp startup?s.

Good luck
