To all the folks who know where in Minnesota I am and who have
been watching the news-
Yesterday an F3 (they think) tornado hit, initially touching down about
a mile from my doorstep and traveling north, striking a new
development about three miles from where I am typing this. The
governor will be touring the area and is expected to declare a
disaster. Several homes are a total loss with a great many (in the
hundreds) considered to be unlivable. A two year old child was killed
and his 11 year old brother critically injured when they were pulled out
of their home by the winds.
There is much happening here and the Significant One and I have
made the decision to not leave the house today for anything as the
disaster teams need time to do their thing.
All of the screens on our home are damaged and the siding has been
significantly damaged. We will have to get with our homeowners
association to figure out what our next steps are. Given the damage
to the building, there is likely to be damage to the roof as well but
until we can get someone up there to look, we just don’t know.
We were actually out shopping when the storm hit. We got an “all
clear” and started to head to Mom’s so that I could replace her AVG
anti virus. About a block from the store the rain and hail started so
we took cover at a gas station. I don’t know if the car took any
damage or not, if it did, it is minor.
We got home about two hours after the storm hit here. There was still
golf ball sized hail on the lawn. That means that it was baseball sized
when it came down. Thus the exterior damage to the house.
Fortunately, the other vehicle was in the garage and safe.
As Michael Kassner, another writer here in the Republic, lives a short
distance from me, I am hoping to see him in this thread letting us all
know that he too is okay.
Any of you who are inclined to talk to God as you know HIm, please
take a moment and pray for my neighbors. There are many in area
hospitals now and they have nothing to go home to. Pray too for the
family that suffered the tragic loss of their two year old son and are
dealing with the critical injuries of their 11 year old.
Thanks for being here for me, guys. And thanks to those who
emailed. I answered you first.
